DESCRIPTION:Harpist – Miriam Kessler\n\n\n\nBeethoven’s Egmont Overture depicts the overthrow of the Spanish out of what is today the Benelux Countries in the 1600s. The uprising of the Flemish peoples to throw out the Spanish is one of the most exciting endings in all of music! The second half of the program will feature Peter Tchaikovsky’s monumental Symphony #5. This is one of the most exciting of all symphonies! \n\n\n\nNext will be Concerto for Harp and Orchestra\, by Gliere\, featuring award winning harpist\, Miriam Kessler\, who is currently a student at the Cleveland Institute of Music. This is a rare chance to hear the beautiful sounds of harp.

SUMMARY:Independence Day Concert and Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The tradition of celebrating Independence Day with live music followed by fireworks will continue on the south banks of the Kankakee River. \n\n\n\nThe fundraising event will include three live music performances. Kankakee Community College gates open at 4 PM and admission is $20 per carload. All proceeds benefit the KVSO. Food concessions will also be available beginning at 4 PM. Vendors will be Jimmy Jo’s BBQ\, Martinez Tacos\, Oberweis Ice Cream and Kankakee Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra Concessions. \n\n\n\nThe schedule of the performances is shown below. The fireworks show will be approximately 25 minutes long. The KVSO symphony concert is underwritten by Riverside Medical Center. Illinois Arts Council\, Kankakee Valley Park District\, the City of Kankakee and KCC are also sponsors. \n\n\n\nOn the KCC grounds\, picnicking is welcomed and indoor restrooms are available. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets as no seating is provided. KCC’s grounds are handicapped accessible. Personal fireworks\, including sparklers\, are not permitted. Small tents and mini grills will be allowed in designated areas. \n\n\n\nOriginally known as the Society for Friends of Music\, KVSO was established in 1967 for the purpose of experiencing the joy of music together. Today the KVSOA Board of Directors\, the Kankakee Valley Youth Symphony\, The KVSO Women’s Guild and the KVSO Foundation all make up the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra Association. \n\n\n\nSchedule: \n\n\n\n\n4 PM – Gates open\n\n\n\n6 PM – Performance by the KVYSO\n\n\n\n7 PM – Performance by the Municipal Band\n\n\n\n8 PM – Performance by the KVSO\n\n\n\nFireworks at approximately 9:15 PM\n\n\n\n$20 per carload\, which includes free parking
